Overview

Purpose:
To assist in providing the highest quality patient care, by supplying sterile and non-sterile supplies, instruments, and equipment to all departments/areas within the University Medical Center complex.

Summary:
The Sterile Processing Technician’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to: decontamination, inspection, assembly, packaging, and sterilization of reusable instruments, utensils, trays, carts, and equipment; assembly of case carts; pick-up and delivery of all reusable items to using areas; monitoring of the sterilization process according to acceptable Sterile Processing Standards. Maintains compliance with established policies and procedures of the Department of Health, JCAHO, OSHA, AAMI, AORN and CDC.

Qualifications

Certifications:  National Certification preferred.  IAHCSMM certification required within one year unless you are currently enrolled in an accredited Surgical Technology program.

 

Education:  High school graduate or equivalent

 

Experience:  One year of previous experience in a healthcare setting in a clinical capacity preferred. Previous experience in sterile processing strongly preferred. Internal applicants must have a minimum of 2 years work experience with University of Louisville Hospital to compensate for experience.
