Overview

The RN Clinical Informaticist role develops and helps maintain the electronic medical system, software applications and databases of UMC across the care continuum. This role has the thorough understanding of all application functionality, reporting capabilities, interfacing and integration of each clinical application assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Implements applications, tools, and processes that assist clinicians with the management of data in patient care and the delivery of health care.
  • Maintains changes to referential data, across the clinical applications assigned.
  • Assists with application implementation and system customization including the development of alerts/hard stops, data integration, and order generation, automation of document entry and enforcement of adherence to required workflows.
  • Provides technical support, diagnosis of application errors and troubleshooting with system issues with end users in a service oriented manner.
  • Interprets, modifies and designs clinical systems, data and information.
  • Designs and implements educational and clinical services programs; supports send-user training.
  • Facilitates clinical content team – work with physicians, nurses, pharmacists and other health care professionals to evaluate current EMR functionality and develop future applications by building consensus and using efficient decision-making processes.
  • Recommends innovative ideas, processes, and/or procedures for enhancements, additions, and modifications to improve existing systems.
  • Assists with the configuration and setup of new users within the clinical systems as they relate to the EHR.
  • Manages and leads the development, implementation and ongoing maintenance of Meaningful Use within the facility.
  • Supports the recruitment and retention of high performing staff.
  • Provides an update on a regular basis or as requested to keep management apprised of department performance (i.e. challenges and successes)

Qualifications

Certifications & License:  Registered Nurse licensed in the State of Kentucky

 

Education:  ADN or BSN

 

Experience:  A minimum of three to five years experience in healthcare required.  At least one to two years experience in Emergency Medicine required. Medical terminology and understanding of workflows is critical; strong working knowledge of Allscripts, McKesson/Paragon software and Microsoft Outlook. Cerner, FirstNet experience preferable.  Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills; excellent written and oral communication skills, collegial and customer service oriented.
