The Receptionist is responsible for answering all incoming telephone lines into Medical Oncology. This position requires significant telephone contact with referring physicians, patients, internal staff and physicians, and external customers. This position also requires some direct contact with physicians, patient, internal staff and physicians, and external customers. This position also provides general support within the medical records area in the form of filing and copying of records.
LIST THE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS PERFORMED BY THIS POSITION
Answers, screens and directs all incoming Departmental phone calls; takes detailed message from caller for appropriate staff/physicians; maintains proper phone etiquette and a cordial and professional demeanor at all times.
Greets all patients, physicians, internal and external customers in a professional manner; accommodates patients, physicians, internal and external customers by assisting with requests and directing them to the appropriate areas within the BCC.
Assists staff with obtaining Departmental charts (signing in and out of the office); assists staff with organization of the medical information to be filed and the filing of medical information within the Departmental charts.
Mails dictations to referring physicians
Makes photocopies as needed and requested; maintains fax machine, organizing all incoming faxes and distributing to designated recipients; sorts and distributes mail.
Provides back-up support for the other office staff as needed; acts as a resource person for all office staff; assists with the orientation of new employees.
Protects and preserves the confidentiality of patient information.
Maintains good working relationships with both internal and external contacts.
Performs other duties as assigned by authorized personnel or as requested to met the needs of the facility as well as internal and external customers.
Call patients 48 hrs prior to their scheduled visit and mail rescheduled clinic appointment to patients as requested by the schedulers.
EDUCATION & TRAINING:
High School graduate or equivalent.
Two years medical experience required, preferably within an outpatient clinic. Knowledge of computers and program applications, such as Microsoft Office, are required.
