Job Summary / Job Purpose

The Education Specialist coordinates non-clinical education programs, pre-licensure nursing

development programs and serves as liaison with academic affiliates for nursing and non-nursing

programs. Designs and develops performance and learning based programs using e-learning delivery

methods such as web-based programs, electronic performance support, intranet/internet solutions, and

evaluates overall effectiveness of the learning management system. Provides select training to target

audiences. Responsible for aggregation of education records and compiling reports. The Education

Specialist also supports core operational functions of the Nursing Education and Research Departments. 

The position supports core behaviors, standards, values, and missions of the UofL Hospital, accrediting

bodies, and serves as a professional role model.

 Works under the direction of the Nursing Education and Research Director. Works

collaboratively with Staff Development, utilizing established structures and processes,

supporting the goals and initiatives of education and the organization.


1. Facilitates the ongoing education and professional development of staff and students.

2. Plans, prepares, and maintains materials for use in competency based educational programs,

utilizing current standards, regulations, and validated evidenced based research as related to the

nursing service line.

3. Develops programs and competency strategies to address identified learning needs as related to

the nursing department.  

4. Designs, creates and devleops web-based technologies, computer graphics, multimedia

technologies, online course management and delivery, onling course design and implementation,

and blended e-learning

5. Coordinates and provides support for educaiton programs, conferences and seminars

6. Incorporates principles of adult learning in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of

education and competency programs.

7. Communicates effectively in visual, oral, and written form and demonstrates effective presentation


8. Assists in the fiscal and administrative operations through cost effective use of resources, analysis

of ROI, and participation in revenue generating activities for the department and the organization.

9. Serves as an educational consultant and/or facilitator to hospital committees, task forces, and

11. Promotes concept of lifelong learning. 12. Develops and implmeents logistical process improvemetns for the Nursing Education and Research department within the scope of position responsibility, and in coordination with other department members. 13. Participate in the strategic development and accomplishment of departmental goals and objectives 14. Demonstrates flexibility. 15. Strives for congruence between educational activities and organization mission and goals.

Minimum Qualifications Required: 1. Bachelors degree in related field (e.g. education, organizational development, etc.) required, or completion within specified time frame upon hire 2. 2 years of previous experience applicable to role 3. Advanced level skill in Microsoft Office products Preferred: 1. Possess strong analytical skills with the ability to not only understand data, but to effectively translate data and information as well 2. Project management experience, particularly with competing priorities across multiple projects and clients 3. Ability to build relationships to influence and drive change and execution 4. Superior communicaiton, presenting and writing skills 5. Ability to communicate technical information and complex data to non-technical audiences in a logical, concise manner 6. Ability to work independently and make decisions with minimal supervision
